At Kick-off Day the St. Agnes Academy Engineering Team discovered the
2008 BEST Challenge--JUST PLANE CRAZY!
This year, the teams have to build a robot that is capable of maneuvering a course with the goal of transporting and assembling model airplanes. Part of the challenge also includes lifting the airplane four feet into the air. To accomplish this task, St. Agnes is given various supplies with which we are to build our robot. Our team has six weeks to design and build a robot, come up with a winning strategy, and practice with our wonderful creation so that we can actually accomplish the task set before us. We document every step of the engineering process that we used in our design and construction. All of this documentation and experimentation is compiled into a NOTEBOOK. This notebook includes research that links the challenge's objective to real-life uses for our robot or similar technology.
At the end of the six weeks, our team will give a formal presentation to the North Houston BEST judges, and competed in a head-on competittion with other schools from the North Houston Hub. For the past four years now, St. Agnes Academy Engineering Team as gone home with the Second Place BEST Award.
