Course Description:

Art History A - is a one semester course that traces the evolution of man's creativity from Prehistory to the Renaissance. Students build an appreciation for art by studying the various functions and purposes of art and ecamining their own responses to art. They learn to make independent associations between historical, economic, cultural, religious, and social influences in the creative process. Ultimalely, the Art History student is equipped with the ability to visit a major art museum with the necessary foundation to make the experience meaningful.

Art History B - is a one semester course that explores art as an international influence from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. Students build a greater appreciation for a multitude of art styles through the study of cultural, historical, religious, economic and political influences. Art that may formerly have seemed alien becomes more meaningful with greater understanding of the artist's intention. With the Art History B foundation, students more confidently make indepentent assessments of art, its purpose, and its relative merit.

  4. a one inch three-ring binder
  5. SAA student planner or homework calender
  6. Laptop computer
  7. great attitude and an appreciation for cornball humor

Behavior Agreement:

I, Mrs. Costa, agree to respect the dignity of each student and the right of each student to learn. I expect students to extend the same courtesy to each other and to me. Ask Mrs. Costa to see her discipline tickets!

Grading Policy:

Quarter averages are calculated from writing assignments, test scores, graded assignments and quiz scores. Tests and major assignments comprise 60% of the quarter average and homework assignments and quizzes comprise 40% of the quarter average. Semester averages are calculated by the averaging of two quarters plus the final exam. Each quarter counts as 40% and the final counts as 20% of the semester grade.
Note:  Your notes will be graded as homework for organization and content so stay on your toes!

Extra Credit: No such thing in this class
